The team at Mountain Equipment is super excited to announce the addition of Peta Braga (Insta @20793.04 ) to the crew! Peter's thirst for any and every adventure is addictive and has lead him to some amazing places. Whether it's by ice axe and crampon, bike or trail running shoe, if it's long and hard he'll be up for it.
Peter's had a fantastic last couple of years embarking on trips in New Zealand, Europe and a bunch of local grand adventures in Aus. We're honoured to have him on board at MEQ and look forward to what the future holds.
The below is from his athlete profile and gives you an insight into what he's been up to in his own words...
- Team MEQ
Born and raised in Sydney’s Inner West as one of eight siblings, I grew up with family holidays that revolved around the outdoors including camping, hiking, climbing, and mountain biking. Despite living in the heart of a major city, these experiences cultivated my passion for the wilderness and experiencing beautiful places in different ways.
During university, I worked at an outdoor store (Mountain Equipment!) which connected me with more of Sydney’s outdoor community. I was constantly learning from customers and colleagues, discovering new sports, and setting out on climbing, hiking, and snow trips both locally and overseas. These experiences not only reinforced my love for the outdoors but also my commitment to conservation and protecting these landscapes.
In 2023, I took on a 10-day trip through the Arthurs Range in southwest Tasmania, from the Eastern Arthurs, across Federation Peak and finishing off across the Western Arthurs. At the time, it felt like a massive undertaking. That same year, I signed up for my first 50km trail race, which became an experience that shifted my perspective on running. What began as a curiosity quickly turned into a passion for covering big terrain quickly and efficiently, blending endurance sport with outdoor objectives. This led me to complete a 26-day, 800km fastpacking journey across the Pyrenees, following the Haute Route Pyrenees (HRP) route from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. Combining elements of running, hiking, and self-sufficiency, it was a memorable trip and contributed to my passion for multi-day endurance efforts in remote and rugged terrain.
Now, alongside my work as a Conservation Planner, working in ecologically significant areas in NSW, I continue to train and push myself in ultra distance running, bike-packing and FKT efforts. Whilst I still consider myself somewhat of a beginner to endurance sport, regardless of the activity, I enjoy experiencing new places, training, learning from mistakes, pushing myself, and chasing competitiveness.
Recently I have enjoyed running in some events including the local Lithgow Ridgey Didge 50k placing 1st in 2024 and 4th in 2025, 7th at the 2024 Great Southern Endurance Run 50 Mile, and have been cutting my teeth in unsupported bikepacking racing including a 3rd place at the 2024 Mallee Blast 530km and 5th in the 2025 Cloudride Prologue 510km. In 2025 I will be running in the UTA 100km in the Blue Mountains, hoping to shave a few hours off my previous time, attempt to run the Great North Walk (250km) as well as other races. I am also deciding between riding in either the Race to the Rock (3600km) or the Tassie Gift (1780km) bikepack races.
I have long been using gear from Mountain Equipment and am excited to continue working with the team to tackle new objectives. Whether it is trail runners, ultralight sleeping kit or nutrition products, the variety of brands and offerings at Mountain Equipment are a great fit for my future efforts.
From all of us at Mountain Equipment we're so proud to have Peter join the team. As a guy who just loves big adventures we're just kept on our toes with what the next thing he's keen to do is.
