Are these suitable pants for a 7000m-7500m expedition as the insulation layer? (assuming base layer underneath)? Would you also say the exterior is relatively hardwearing?
Hello,
Thanks so much for your question regarding the Refuge Pant. Although there are some climbers who have and will use this pant for peaks above 7000m, in my opinion that is pushing this product to it's absolute limit and not leaving any redundancy in the system. Meaning if conditions are great and you are feeling good then they'll be fine but if the weather starts to fade, wind picks up too much, your body isn't maintaining heat very well, or you get stuck at a bottle neck and have to wait for ages - they won't leave much leeway for these variables.
I'd recommend checking out the Rab Photon Pants: https://mountainequipment.com/collections/insulation-warmwear/products/photon-pants-lightweight-synthetic-puffy-pants?variant=13680566239267
They'll be a bit warmer without going a full down pant and layered with some thermals underneath and shell pants on top (which you should have with you anyway) will make a great system that will account for quite a few different situations up there. If your size isn't there just let me know as I can always look at special ordering some in for you. Let me know if you have any other questions direct at web@mountainequipment.com
Kind Regards,
